Birthday Trip to the Carolina The Renaissance Festival

11-5-2011

forty-Four years ago....... I WAS BORN!! :)

and whats a better way than to spend the day with my family and godson at the Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival. For those of you who have never been to one, you are missing out!!
To find out all about the festival you can go here: http://www.royalfaires.com/carolina/
The day started out rather, shall we say...a little cool, with a breeze (read low 40s) but warmed up nicely as the day went on (and enough to give me a slight sunburn on my face by the end of the day ;) )
I am amazed that every year there seems to be more and more people coming to this festival.  I think folks nowadays enjoy the escape from the modern world. To do something as cool as eating a turkey leg while downing a pint of Guinness while watching knight joust in full armor (what could be better?)
At opening, people started to pour in

By mid day it was PACKED!!
Many of our favorite shows were there like the Torguga Twins (yes there are 3 of them), Shanty Man and Bonnie Lass (the Pirate Show) (This year with fire eating!!!) and many others!
Look! Its Bonnie Lass standing on a Garbage Can!!
Of course there were many many other great things to see (and if I wasn't strutting around in my Kilt for the pleasure of the ladies, I would have taken more pictures!
A flute playing fairy entertaining the youngsters
Of course! the next bets thing to the beer and the turkey legs (and all the women in push up dresses) was....THE JOUST!!
For those of you who have been before, you know where you sit decides which knight you will champion. Of course our favorite is Maximilian!

The jousting was as good as ever!! But of course the good guy won and Max and the other "BAD" knight was dispatched.

and finally we encountered a pipe band we have never heard of before, Cu Dubh, http://www.cudubh.com/
mixes Scottish Pipes with Mid-Eastern Drums.
As I ambled over to check them out they finished the song they were playing and then introduced one of there dancers.....and the following video was born!

Next....My California Adventure Begins!!!

Cheers!
